Last week when I posted the new quote I hung up on my wall I briefly mentioned that I had revamped a picture frame to hang it with. I thought a warm metallic would go well with the print. Though I warned you guys that I was a bit obsessed with the copper paint I used for my copper bead necklace, so maybe I just wanted to use it again. Anyway, I’m happy with how it turned out, so I thought I’d share how to faux-gild a picture frame.
Materials:
Copper gilding paint (I used Martha Stewart Liquid Gilding in copper)
Primer
Small brush
Acetone for cleanup (I used acetone nailpolish remover)
Fine sandpaper, 220 grit
Painter’s pyramids (useful, but not required)

Steps:
1. Take the frame apart, removing the backing and glass. Lightly sand the front surface and sides of the frame, then wipe the dust away with a damp cloth.

2. Paint the front and sides of the frame with a coat of spray primer. Let dry.

3. Paint the front and sides of the frame with a coat of copper paint. Let dry, then repeat.

4. Let the frame dry completely, then reassemble it, insert your art, and hang it up!

Super easy, but it really makes the frame (and print) feel a lot more luxurious, and it would be a great way to save a dinged or scratched frame that has seen better days.
