Weekend Inspiration

Happy Friday! Since I had surgery on my knee and hip on Monday, this has been a weird week for me. I’ve spent most of it laid up in bed, on lots of painkillers, which means I really haven’t gotten much done. Luckily my dear husband has been taking great care of me. Despite being a little bit loopy and feeling not-so-great some of the time, I’m healing up, and looking forward to someday having a leg that works better.

This week the first piece I wrote for Curbly went live, about stupid and expensive mistakes I’ve made as a first-time homeowner. In the hopes of saving other people from making similar mistakes, I got real about some dumb stuff I’ve done in my home.

Tanya’s beautiful results have me dying to try out alcohol inks. Luckily she goes over everything you need to know to make your own alcohol ink art.

These linen pajamas sound dreamy.

Wow, what a gorgeous DIY headboard.

I posted about DIY embroidery kits recently, and if you’d like to try out a simpler version, this cute embroidered monstera leaf wall art would be a great place to start.

My Top 10 One Room Challenge Favorites of Spring 2018

Do you follow the One Room Challenge? If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a twice-yearly event where bloggers take six weeks to makeover one room. The spring 2018 round just ended a couple of weeks ago. Any blogger can participate as a guest, which means there is tons of real-world design inspiration. I’m just getting around to checking out the finished rooms, and there were so many beautiful makeovers that it was hard to pick out just ten as my favorites. As far as my own projects go, I’m currently out of commission for a bit (more on that below), so I’m trying to use my downtime to gather up inspiration for future room makeovers. Continue reading

Weekend Inspiration

yard trimmings bouquet
Happy Friday! As the weather gets warmer and the plants in my yard grow by leaps and bounds every day, I’ve been spending a lot of time planting, trimming, and pulling weeds. The bouquet above is actually one I put together from some plant clippings from my yard. So I’ll be doing some some more gardening this weekend, but I also have a few projects I want to share here soon that I need to finish up. I hope you have lovely weekend plans!

I think I’m going to make a vegan version of this asparagus mint hazelnut pizza with asparagus from my garden this weekend. It might sound weird, but it’s super good!

This macrame rug project from the new book Modern Macrame has me definitely wanting to check out the book.

If it’s still cool enough to need a cardigan in your corner of the world, this slouchy cardigan looks like a fun pattern.

I really need to make one of these waterproof blankets for my next picnic.

This DIY layered glass wall art looks really cool, and like it would be fun and easy to make.

Vegan Overnight Yeasted Waffles

This recipe for vegan overnight yeasted waffles is dedicated to my fellow night owls. I would almost always rather stay up late to get something done than get up early. Since you do most of the work for these waffles the night before, if you want to make breakfast for guests, this is the perfect way to give yourself a few more minutes to sleep in. Aside from saving time in the morning, the waffles themselves are the perfect combination of crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, with a mild sourdough tang. And I won’t blame you a bit if you let your guests think you woke up at the break of dawn to make them.

Weekend Project: Storage Closet Shelves

This weekend I built some shelves for a closet that desperately needed them, and while I would categorize this as a not-particularly-photogenic project, it is super practical and I’m really glad I did it! So I’m sharing the details in case you need a little push to get organized by building your own DIY wood storage shelves.

Pink lockers with dark blue walls

Lately I’ve been having trouble figuring out what to share here. It’s not that I don’t have projects I’m working on, it’s just that the ones I’m working on right now aren’t particularly sexy or photogenic. They’re things like gardening, organizing, and adding storage. Is it better to share non-Pinterest-worthy projects than nothing at all? Probably the answer is yes, but sometimes it’s difficult to find a balance between pretty and practical. And I do have some more photogenic projects on the horizon, so please stick with me!

This DIY wood and brass inlay serving board is so gorgeous.

Loving this collection of super-chic eco-friendly, vegan bags.

Oh my gosh, this Barcelona house tour is so unexpectedly stunning.

Yum, this blueberry lavender coconut ice cream looks amazing.

If you were inspired by my post about modern embroidery, a couple of Sublime Stitching embroidery starter kits are on sale through May 5.

These DIY clay bells are a clever way to get the look of decorative ceramic bells without the expense.

This article made me want to try ginger lemon turmeric tea. Have you ever had it?

Wow, I want to camp out in a bubble dome now.

If you’re starting seeds for your garden, these newspaper seedling pots are a great upcycling project.
