I guess I’m a day or two late with this post, so maybe working on my punctuality should be one of my goals. But I was totally ignoring the New Year’s resolution cliché until I was confronted with some thoughtful posts about the subject, and decided that maybe it would be a good idea after all. Diet and exercise resolutions are rather boring, so I’m concentrating on some totally doable self-improvement goals. I can already tell that this year is going to bring lots of exciting changes (moving houses, and some fun travel destinations are already on the docket), so I figure I’d better give myself a few things to work on.
Get out: For a while now I’ve kind of been in hibernation mode. I really haven’t gone out to see shows or performances, and not for lack of interest. There are always tons of fun events and shows around town, and this year I want to get out of the house and enjoy myself more often. Being a shut-in doesn’t really lend itself to making friends, so I’d like to take some classes and attend events so that I meet more people who share my interests.
Create routines: I get the most done when I have set routines, so this year I’d like to create some schedules for myself and stick to them. This would be especially helpful in creating more regular blog content.
Create: There are tons of projects I’ve pinned, and then never gotten around to making. There are lots of reasons, mostly practical (I don’t have the tools or materials), some less so (lack of motivation or fear of failure), but I’ll have plenty of motivation when we move into our own house and I get to tackle some home DIY projects.
Purge: It’s way too easy to accumulate too much stuff, and over the years I’ve done just that. Moving is always a good motivation to get rid of junk, but every time I move I end up realizing I held on to some things that I should’ve just let go. I think I’m getting better, but I want to streamline and simplify by getting rid of even more.
Straighten up: For years I’ve had pretty poor posture, and I’d really like to straighten up. I’m going to use regular reminders, plus some stretching and yoga poses, to help me stand up straight.
How about you, did you set any goals for the new year? Even teeny ones?
i THINK YOU HAVE JUST MADE A GOAL LIST FOR ME. THE LAST ONE IS SOMETHING i ALWAYS DO ANYWAY. BEING TALL, 5’11”, ACTUALLY HAS MADE ME STAND STRAIGHTER. i AM NOT GOING TO BE A SWEET LITTLE THING BY SLOUCHING.
i HAVE JUST DISCOVERED TRANSIENT EXPRESSION AND LOVE IT. HAPPY 2014
melissasmom, glad to know I’m not alone in my goals! And you’re right about standing up straight, that’s a good way to think of it. Thanks so much, and happy 2014 to you, too!
