Field Trip: Pistils Nursery

Field Trip: Pistils Nursery

Portland plant shop Pistils Nursery
Pistils Nursery has been one of my favorite places to buy plants ever since I moved within walking distance two years ago. Indoors, they’ve long had a great selection of houseplants, terrarium supplies, and gifts, and in the back, there were lots of outdoor plants, and even a flock of fluffy chickens. But this past winter they added a dreamy solarium (like a greenhouse), which really takes the shop to the next level. When I was there this week they were still putting the finishing touches on it, so it’s brand new, but I already want to move in.

I guess I’ll just have to settle for turning my house into a jungle. Which will be easy with all of the plants they have. If you visit in the next few days, they’re running an Instagram promotion where you can get a free plant! Details here. I snagged one with this picture.

These moss-bound plants are called kokedama, and they have instructions for making your own on their blog. They have workshops, too.

Need to clean up after digging in the dirt? They’ve got you covered.

Not plant-related (except the yarn is made of wool from sheep, and sheep eat plants?) but if you’re a knitter, they recently started carrying super chunky yarn kits from Loopy Mango.
