More Stair Landing Progress

More Stair Landing Progress

It’s hard to believe, but I actually made huge progress on my stair landing railing! I should actually say we made progress, because I had lots of help on the actual project, and baby-wrangling, from Steven and my parents. They all really came through for getting it up and 99% finished this weekend.

Need a reminder of the starting point? (I don’t blame you, it’s been forever since I shared my plans and last progress.)

I know, it actually looked way cuter, right? But this picture was a little bit styled, taken with my real camera, not my phone, and missing the random piles of tools (and my shoes, for some reason?) laying around.

Also, this old railing was only 20 inches tall, so cuteness aside, it was really not very safe at all even for adults. It wasn’t even tall enough to attach a baby gate to at the top of the stairs.

Speaking of baby gates, I need to put up this one I bought for the top of the stairs. And there’s still plenty of patching, sanding, caulking and finishing to do on the railing.

My patch job on the windowsill isn’t quite done, but it’s come a long way from where it started. I think it’ll be practically invisible after I finish the patching, sanding, and painting.

I actually ended up constructing this railing in a totally different way than I’d planned. I’ll go into the details of how and why I built it the way I did in my wrap-up post when it’s all finished.

The fun part is also coming up! After the practical stuff is done, I get to hang plants in those two little openings, and put the rest of the space back together. I can’t wait to make it cute again!
