On Friday I put a little extra time into my hair and makeup in preparation for a very important event: taking a new driver’s license photo. My last one was terrible, and if you get a bad picture you’re stuck showing it to people for YEARS, so I was determined to try to get the best one possible. After cramming for the knowledge test, I drove over to the DMV, but when I pulled into the parking lot I could immediately tell that something was wrong. It was almost completely empty, except for one other car, and the driver of that one was walking back from the door, shaking his head. The problem, it turned out, was that due to state budget cuts, the office was closed for the day. Judging by the number of people who pulled up and left while I was checking out the situation, I wasn’t the only one who was totally unaware that DMV workers were getting an extra day on their weekend. Oh well, I guess I get to do it all over again soon. Maybe this time I’ll actually read the driver’s manual.
