DIY Metallic Print Bag

DIY Metallic Print Bag

The other day I decided to play around with the metallic pen I used for this ring holder. I started with a small plain black faux-leather pouch. I made the one I used, which is a smaller version of the one I made in this tutorial. (If you don’t want to sew your own, here are some similar pre-made options: one, two, three, four.) Then I added a trendy plus-sign pattern. If you’d like to make your own, here’s how I did it.

Materials:
Black purse or clutch
Metallic paint pen (I used a Deco Color Calligraphy Pen)
Clear matte polyurethane varnish or spray sealer
Foam brush
Ruler

Methods:
1. Use a ruler to space out your plus signs. I placed a dot every inch for the first row, then drew the plus signs, and repeated the first step for the next row, except I staggered the dots relative to the first row. Repeat for the desired number of rows, then allow the paint to dry and repeat on the other side.

2. To seal the paint, brush one side with two thin coats of a matte varnish. Let dry between coats, and repeat on the other side. A spray sealer would also work (but my bottle inconveniently ran out).

I love how this one turned out so much that I’m thinking of making a larger version. Not sure if I’ll do the same pattern or not, but that’s part of the fun of this project–you can do whatever pattern you’d like.
