This necklace is a fun and easy way to literally make a statement. Do your name, or a word that’s meaningful and close to your heart, or something you want to remember (nothing too long, though). Being the cat lady that I am, I went with “meow,” but there are tons of other words that would make a good necklace.

Materials:
Wire (I used silver-colored 16 gauge copper wire, which you can find in lots of different colors)
Chain
Wirecutters
Needlenose pliers
Jump rings
Necklace clasp
Mallet (optional)
Pen
Paper

Methods:
1. Decide what word you want on your necklace, and write it in cursive on a piece of paper. It may take a couple of tries to get it right, and if you’re not confident in your cursive, you could always use a cursive font. Shorter words are easier, and you’ll probably want to avoid ones with an i.

2. Use the pliers to create a small loop in the wire, then bend the wire to trace the word you’ve written. You probably won’t be able to match it exactly, but get as close as you can.

3. When you’ve finished the word, bend a small loop in the end of the wire, and cut it off. Make sure the wire loop at the beginning and end of the word are level with one another, so that your word will hang evenly.

4. Place your wire word on a flat, sturdy surface, and hammer gently all over. This step is optional, but it will help harden the wire so it holds its shape.
5. Attach a jump ring to the loop at the beginning and end of word, and attach a 9″ length of chain to each jump ring. Try on your necklace, and if necessary, adjust the heights of your loops so the word hangs evenly.

6. Attach a clasp to one end of the chain, and a jump ring to the other.
