Life Update

Life Update

Hi. It has been awhile again, hasn’t it?

There are a lot of reasons why I haven’t blogged much in the past few years. The biggest one is that since becoming a mom in 2019, time got way more scarce. And so did my creativity and inspiration. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love being a mom, but especially when you’re in the middle of a pandemic that limits human interaction, it doesn’t leave much time for blogging. I know that so many people have had it much worse than I have, though. It’s just an explanation, not a complaint.

Which brings me to another reason: the state of the damn world. With Covid-19 raging, and the lack of racial and social justice brought into glaring relief (especially in my city, Portland), I didn’t quite know what to say. I didn’t want to pretend none of it was happening, but I didn’t want to say the wrong thing. It didn’t feel right to blog about “trivial” things when everything was so sad and heavy. And then I hadn’t blogged for so long that it felt weird to just start again, especially when I didn’t know how consistent I could be. I’m still nervous about hitting the “publish” button on this post, to be honest.

So what has changed?

Well, though the world is still very sad and frightening (my heart is with Ukraine), the biggest change is that as of Monday this week, Juniper started preschool. Covid-19 infection numbers are low here, and she’ll be three in April, so we decided it would be a good time to start her in school. I know, I can’t believe I have a preschooler, either.

Which means I suddenly have a lot more time. It’s been weird but liberating. So what am I going to do with it?

A lot more projects!

Despite my silence here, I have been making and improving things around my house, so I have a backlog of projects and ideas to share. At the very least, I owe you an update on the basement office we built last year. (I promise that post is queued up and almost ready to go.)

For now, my goal is to bring you something interesting to read at least once a week. I’m very much looking forward to it, and I hope you are, too!
