Last weekend I came across this lavender leather skirt and realized it was perfect for cutting up and using in craft projects. It’s a size XL, so there’s plenty of material; it’s slightly damaged (it has a pen mark), so I don’t feel too guilty about destroying it; and it was only $2. This is a pretty simple project, but I’m sure it will be the first of many using this skirt. Hopefully they will all be as successful. I’ve already worn this bracelet several times, and I love how the pastel color makes it feminine, but the studs add a slight edginess.
Materials:
Leather (recycled from a thrift store item, preferably!)
Small nailhead studs
Snaps
Snap-setting tool (I used a Snap-Setter)
Needle-nose pliers
Measuring tape
Pen or pencil
Craft scissors
Methods:
1. Wrap a measuring tape around your wrist twice with a little overlap to determine how long your bracelet needs to be. For me this was 14 inches. Measure and mark out a piece of leather the length you just measured and 3/4 of an inch wide.
2. Cut out the leather strip.
3. Add snaps to the ends of your strip. Make sure to orient them properly, so that the pointy side of one snap is on the wrong side of one end of the leather, and the piece it snaps into is on the right side of the other end.
4. Determine how far apart you want your studs to be, and measure and mark their locations with a pen.
5. Center your studs over the spots you marked, then poke them through the leather and bend down the prongs to secure. My studs were sharp enough that they cut through the leather, but if yours aren’t you might need to cut openings for the prongs.
6. Continue adding studs until you’ve studded the whole length of leather.
7. Put it on your wrist.
Love it!
Great combination of feminine and edginess.
Thanks Kelly!
