A week before my sister’s wedding, I decided to sew myself both a travel bag and a dress. The travel bag took way more time to complete than I expected, and the dress took way less.
I wanted to try making a maxi infinity dress, which seemed easy enough. But there are a lot of projects out there that seem easy until you actually attempt them. This is one that was as simple as it seemed, at least for me.
Edited to add: Here are some more details about how to make a maxi infinity dress.
There are plenty of infinity dress tutorials (this one, this one, and this one are helpful), but fewer for the maxi version. I consulted this one and this one to help me make my dress. I used 3.5 yards of stretch jersey knit, which I bought at Joann’s on sale (here’s a good online source), but I probably could have gotten away with only 3 yards. At 50% off, though, the fabric only cost about $22.
As you can see, I’ve already found multiple fun ways to wear it, and I’m sure I’ll find more. I really love how the dress turned out, and how easy it was to make. I’d love to make more of these dresses in multiple colors. If you’ve ever thought about making an infinity dress, I highly recommend that you go for it!
Lovely! You are so incredibly talented! You inspire me like crazy!

Hi rachel – just wondering, because of the jersey I cant tell if you made an Aline skirt or a maxi cirle skirt? Thanks!
Hi Samantha, it’s just straight panels of fabric, but it ended up being more of an A-line skirt because of the gathering at the top. A maxi circle would be a TON of fabric, and way too heavy, I think.
