I haven’t figured out most of my Christmas gifts yet, but I’m already thinking about wrapping them. Splatter-paint wrapping paper is super easy to make (and fun!), and it adds a stylish, handmade touch to your gift. Want to make your own?

Brown kraft paper is one of my go-tos for wrapping, because it’s a great blank slate for embellishment, plus it’s appropriate for pretty much any recipient. You could use any color matte wrapping paper for this, though, and any color paints that you want. You can even do multiple colors, like I did with the black and white.

Splatter-Paint Wrapping Paper

Materials

Brown kraft wrapping paper
Acrylic craft paint
Water
Cup

Steps

1. Put a few drops of paint in a cup. Add a few drops of water. A little goes a long way with both the paint and water! Stir to mix.

2. Dip your brush in the paint, then hold it over the paper, and tap the paintbrush with your other hand. Several factors effect the size of the paint blobs. More paint on the brush, plus harder tapping, generally equals bigger paint splatters, and less paint, plus lighter tapping, means small splatters. And the more watered-down your paint is, the smaller the splatters will be. So experiment to see what effect you like best! There’s no wrong way to do it–if you like it, you’ve done it right!

3. Leave the paper to dry, probably overnight.
4. Wrap your presents! I like to add twine, ribbon, and natural elements like sprigs of greenery.
