DIY Halloween Faux Tattoos

This year, for the first time ever, I won’t really get to celebrate Halloween. They’ll be no costumes, pumpkin carving, or handing out candy for me, since I’m currently out of the country. I’m actually kind of sad to be missing the decorations in Portland–people really go all out and get super creative. But these Halloween temporary tattoos are a fun way to have a little Halloween spirit. I found most of the vintage images on The Graphics Fairy (original spider, original moth, original spinner spider, and this bat and this moth would also make cool Halloween tattoos.) I’ve resized them so all you have to do is print them out and put together your tattoo paper, which is pretty easy. I bet kids would love these.

Methods:
1. Print out the images on the shiny side of the tattoo paper.

2. If you’re not using the whole sheet of tattoo paper, cut out a piece of the adhesive sheet to fit your tattoos.

3. Peel the backing off the adhesive on one edge, and slowly press the plastic down onto the face of the page you printed the tattoos on. Burnish the plastic onto the tattoos with the back of a spoon.

4. Cut out the tattoos. You don’t have to get super close, but trimming fairly close is good.

5. Now put on your tattoos. Peel off the plastic and place the tattoo face down on your skin. Place a damp sponge or cloth on top for 15-30 seconds, then peel off the paper.

They do only last a day or two. Mine came off with the first shower, and left a residue on my skin that I had to use Goo Gone to get off. But they were fun while they lasted, and the spider on my wrist kept creeping me out when I saw it out of the corner of my eye, peeking out from under my watch or sleeve. Have fun, but don’t make your tattoos too spooky.
