Looking Forward

Looking Forward

Are you sick of all of the introspective posts about 2015 and resolutions for 2016? Well, here’s a bit of a late one.

2015 was kind of a flat, ‘meh’ year for me. Partly, I think, it just suffers in comparison to the rollercoaster year of 2014. In 2014 my husband and I bought a house, went on amazing trips to Australia, Sweden, and Denmark, and then ran into a car on my Vespa in September. As I recovered from 22 broken bones, I got out of the habit of blogging regularly. And when I was honest with myself, I realized that while there were certain parts I missed (mainly DIYs!), I was glad that the pressure to keep up with other types of content was gone.

Since then, I’ve struggled to re-find my inspiration and motivation. I still want to share fashion, DIY, and design that gets me excited, but I want to slightly shift the focus so that in 2016, I will blog more frequently and regularly. Says the girl with two posts so far for 2016.  Not exactly a promising start, right? For the past month, I’ve been working on a relaunch of the site, with a new name and design. This means I’ve been doing a bunch of behind-the-scenes stuff, like learning just enough CSS to design and build a new site. I haven’t decided yet when, exactly, to launch the new site, but it’ll be soon.

I’ve also been trying to figure out how to take photos without natural light. Relying on natural light to do my projects is really limiting, especially during winter in Oregon, when the sun sets before 5:00, and gray days are the norm. So I’m building myself a photo studio in our basement to help with my productivity. It’s looking good so far–the gingerbread waffle photos (except for the lemons and eggs), were all shot with my DIY light box. Shooting with only natural light means that the hours when I can create original content for this blog have been very limited, so the idea that I will be free from that restriction is really exciting to me. If I get fired up to shoot a post after the sun has set, I’ll be able to make it happen!

So, I promise that in 2016, you can look forward to a new site, with a new name, and lots of new DIY content. I can’t wait to share!

  1. Rachel, I am glad you are doing so well now, I remember how bad your accident was. I can’t wait to see what you have been up to and your new design. Pat S
