Chain Store Chic

Chain Store Chic

Whew, staying cool around here is tough. Living in San Francisco for the last 5 years, I kind of forgot about how to deal with real heat (and we just don’t have the kind of humidity in Oregon that they have out east). In an attempt to keep the sun off my face I pulled out my drugstore hat. It looks like it’s made of straw, but it’s actually paper. And that mustache is definitely paper. It’s a leftover wedding photobooth prop, and I hope to share more of the props soon.

Finally, can we talk about my ridiculous tiger necklace? It has a sticker on the back saying that it is handmade porcelain, signed by the artist. Clearly it’s a priceless treasure. Just look at that tiger’s sad little face!

  1. I love that skirt! I want to learn how to make that style. Do you know if that skirt is still in the store? I want to go and see how it’s put together…I love it!

    1. Hey Ash, I don’t think the skirt is in stores anymore, since I bought it on clearance a couple of months ago. I love it too, and I think it would be pretty easy to replicate. It’s just got a casing at the top for 2″-thick elastic, and the elastic is sewn down with a stretch stitch. It’s also got a lining and a zipper in the back, but I’m sure you could skip the lining if your fabric was suitable. Hope that helps a little!
I wish mine sat a little higher, on my natural waist, so maybe one of these days I’ll try to make one and put together a tutorial.
