Today I matched a bouquet to a cocktail, all with flowers from my yard (and some help from my housemate Karla).

Blood oranges are such a beautiful fruit, with that lovely bright pink juice that just makes everything it touches look prettier. I came up with this drink because I wanted to combine blood oranges with the ginger liqueur I made recently. I just got lucky that it’s the perfect drink to match the spring colors around me.

Blood Orange & Ginger Cocktail

1.5 oz blood orange juice
0.5 oz lime juice
0.75 oz ginger liqueur
1 oz vodka
1 oz seltzer water
Mix the first 4 ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Pour over ice and add the seltzer water. Garnish with a slice of lime or blood orange.
